SENTENCED Record Hockey Song In Finnish
September 9, 2003Finnish metallers SENTENCED have recorded a song in support of their local ice hockey team, Oulun Kärpät, who hail from the group's hometown of Oulu. Titled "Routasydän", the track is the first-ever SENTENCED song sung in Finnish. The music for the cut was composed by guitarist Miika Tenkula and the lyrics were written by guitarist Sami Lopakka.
"The idea came from Kärpät," explained SENTENCED singer Ville Laihiala. "They wanted us to do a song and same time little bit renew the form supporting songs usually have. First of all, we made a demo song that sounded like us and then when they liked it we went straight to the studio."
"I'm a die-hard supporter of Kärpät so this is like honor thing," Ville added.
"Routasydän" will be published on a CD collection of songs written and recorded in support of the team. It will be available in early October via the Kärpät fan shop.
Finnish fans can hear the song on Thursday (September 11) on the Oulu radio station RadioMega, who will also air an interview with Lopakka. The show will air at around 9:30 p.m.
